5 Things To Do In Charlotte This Weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC — President’s Day is Monday, which means this weekend will be one of big sales from shopping malls to car dealerships. If spending your weekend shopping isn’t really you’re bag, Patch has you covered.

It could be a soggy long weekend in the Queen City region, according to the National Weather Service. Rain moves into the regional forecast Friday afternoon, with a chance of rain every day in the forecast though President’s Day.

Saturday, Feb. 17, 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., McMullen Greenway Park Charlotte


"Starting in Ballantyne, this course follows South Charlotte’s McMullen Greenway to 4 Mile Creek along beautiful paved trails," say event organizers. "The race will start near the intersection of Johnston Rd & Community House and end by Earth Fare on Johnston road. This distance is rare, challenging, and lots of fun!"

Saturday, Feb. 17, Noon – 4 p.m., Whisky River at the Epicentre, 210 E. Trade Street, Charlotte

"Cupid’s Undie Run is a ‘brief’ fun run that takes place in the middle of a BIG party," say event organizers. "That’s right: party, run (a mile-ish, at your own pace), party – all to find a cure to Neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 children born. We encourage undies, but we get that it’s not for everyone, maybe costumes are more your style? So whether you start a team with your friends, join a team, or run solo, just come out, have a blast, and raise some money for NF research!"

Sunday, Feb. 18, 11 a.m., New Century Grocery & Food, 4500 N Tryon St, Charlotte

Say event organizers, "The Seven Star Gym Lion Dance Troupe will be performing along with David Chin’s Kung Fu Team at four locations in Charlotte, NC. We will start at approx 11 am at New Century Grocery on Tryon St. It will be another awesome way to celebrate the beginning of the year of the dog."

Sunday, Feb. 18, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., Free Range Brewing, 2320 N. Davidson St. Charlotte

WDAV & Free Range Brewing’s Small Batch Concert Series continues with a performance from the energetic Tesla Quartet, the award-winning chamber ensemble serving as quartet-in-residence with the Western Piedmont Symphony. The concert is free, but a $10 ticket supports the station and also gets you a Small Batch pint glass filled with a Free Range beer.

Sunday, Feb. 18, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., Barista Craft Highland Creek, 5818 Highland Shoppes Dr., Ste C9, Charlotte

Say event organizers: "Join us the third Sunday of every month for a free Jazz night at Barista Craft from 7-9pm. For the month of February a quartet will be playing consisting of students from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Jazz Studies program."

Ballantyne NC Real Estate Is Hot To Trot After A Recent Downward Trend

Ballantyne isn’t just part of Charlotte. It is an upscale neighborhood, so you know that the prices might be a little on the steep side. Charlotte real estate is booming, but is Ballantyne following the trend throughout the city? Well there is only one way to find out, so let’s take a look at what the Ballantyne real estate market looks like in 2018.

For being an upscale neighborhood, the median home sales price is lower than I expected, sitting right around the $241k mark. The average price per square foot is $136, which is about what I expected in relation to the $241k number. What would you think that the median rent would be for Ballantyne? The figure is an average of $1650 per month.

The median sales price was actually on a downward trend a few months back, but it has been climbing up steadily now and is on the rise to new heights. Considering the health of the market in general on a national level, it is a seller’s market, but a buyer’s market, too. Looking at the chart and other stats, I would say advantage buyer, wouldn’t you?

That shouldn’t make you nervous as a seller, but you might want to be patient. If you can wait to sell, you might should do that. You see, I’m looking at the home values chart like I would a stock chart. The homes are just now back at the levels they we’re year ago and passing them up. They appear to be climbing higher, and so this represents a great opportunity to enjoy appreciation of assets. You will likely see home values continue to rise. You have to decide how you fit into the market forecast, but one thing for sure, you will certainly be interacting with a healthy Ballantyne real estate market.
